Cover Picture (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 9/2015)
Precise spatiotemporal control of intracellular protein dimerization by using light as an external stimulus is possible with the phytohormone gibberellic acid. As R. Wombacher et al. show in their Communication on page 2825 ff., irradiation of gibberellic acid (closed lock) with light or photons sets free the biological activity (open lock) through a one- or two-photon absorption process. The induced conformation change and dimerization is symbolized by the embracing couple (a wood cut by the artist Edvard Munch, 1863–1944).

Click here to see a movie of spatiotemporal control of protein dimerisation within a living cell (localisation of GFP to mitochondria in COS7 cells) using caged GA3 activated by a light pulse.
